Friendship
Over the weekend I had the opportunity to spend the day with a few girlfriends. I was gifted the day at Disneyland to help a girlfriend celebrate her birthday. I was able to catch up with friends I hadn’t seen in a really long time (COVID), and I made a new friend, who is delightful.
It felt really great to be able to connect at a soul level while laughing harder than I had in a really long time. I mean, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much and my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. You know that laughter that makes it hard to breathe? It was great.
And, we had deep conversations about life, that reached into my soul, allowed connection and a sense of a deep friendship. It did this introvert’s heart some good. And it reminded me how important connection is. Real connection.
And, how important fun is…they say laughter is medicine for the soul.
I know that this length of connection isn’t always available, and sometimes spending an hour drinking coffee is just as fulfilling.
I just want to remind us all that relationships are so important for growth and healing. Outside of romantic relationships, friends offer a different connection.
I hear a lot that going out with friends takes too much energy, and it is just easier to stay at home. I also hear that “I am too much, my friends don’t want to hear (fill in the blank) anymore”. But, often, this is the time when friends are most needed; when we don’t have the energy or emotional reserve to go out. True friends allow for that space ~ and if you believe that your friends don’t want to hear (fill in the blank) anymore, ask them…and if you are right find other friends that do want to hear it. Remember that you are not too much…
I encourage you to reach out. Spend some time with friends.
And, if you have the opportunity to laugh please do; maybe so hard that your cheeks hurt.
